Is CBD Oil Effective in Treating Depression
What’s the Deal about CBD Oil? Is it Legal in the US? How Effective is it at Treating Depression?
Cannabidiol, or cannabinol, is a non-intoxicating phytocannabinoid found in the 1940s. It accounts for more than 40% of the total marijuana extract and is one of only eleven known cannabinoids in cannabis plants.
CBD has been shown to have medicinal benefits in the treatment of several types of cancer. Its use in chemotherapy and other cancer therapies have demonstrated to be extremely effective, but its effects are not recognized by the FDA.
A new study published in JAMA shows that CBD oil may have the ability to treat many forms of depression. Clinical trials in the past have shown some success with the use of CBD, but no definitive results. The study published in JAMA used a group of patients suffering from major depression. They placed some of these patients on a three month trial of CBD and found that they were able to decrease their depression symptoms by an average of 35%.
While this clinical trial is relatively small and the results are preliminary, it still represents an important development. The study was funded by the US government’s National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). This makes CBD oil one of the few prescription drugs currently approved by the FDA for the treatment of depression.
With the exception of certain rare cases of epilepsy, CBD should not be considered addictive or a cause for concern. The drug is also not thought to affect a person’s memory. The reason it has shown some promise in the treatment of depression is because of the way it interacts with the brain. It has been shown to act on specific brain chemicals, known as “CB2” receptors, which in turn, affects the receptors in the brain.
When the brain senses that something is wrong, it releases certain brain chemicals called “endorphins”. Endorphins are responsible for the relaxation and feelings of well-being that people experience when they’re happy and have had enough sleep. In a study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, CBD was able to significantly increase levels of endorphins in the brain and reduce symptoms of depression.
CBD is believed to work in the brain by altering how serotonin and norepinephrine (also called “neurotransmitters”) are processed. The changes in how these chemicals are produced may cause the body to respond in different ways to various types of mood disorders. Click here for more information about CBD Oil.
For now, there is little scientific evidence that CBD is effective in treating depression, but the fact that it’s a new treatment suggests that there is some potential for this type of treatment to work. If more studies show that this is the case, it could result in a variety of medical breakthroughs for a variety of ailments.
